Become a borrower and use the library
It’s easy to become a borrower at the Designmuseum Danmark’s Library. Here you can read how to register yourself as a borrower and about the opportunities you have as a borrower.
Here’s how you become a borrower: If you are a new borrower, you can sign up the first time you visit us. Afterwards, you can order materials in the Library’s online database and borrow from us. When you come to pick up materials, always bring photo ID or your “yellow card” issued by the Danish government.
What can you do as a borrower?
We are a publicly accessible library, and the collections can be used without charge by everyone. When you have been registered as a borrower, you can log in and order materials in the library’s online catalogue.
As a borrower, you can take home all of the materials in the library’s collection. Some materials can only be reviewed at the library itself: these are marked “reading room” and they can be selected for review at the library using the database.
Who can borrow from the library?
You can loan directly from us if you are a resident in the Greater Copenhagen area. People who live outside that area but within Denmark can order material from us via www.bibliotek.dk for delivery to their own local library.
The loan period for our materials is one month. If you do not return the materials on time, you will be charged a fee.
You can extend your borrowing period online in our database. If you lose or damage our materials, you will be charged a replacement fee that will be determined by us.
The library is happy to host groups and offer an introduction to how to use the library. Contact us for an appointment.
When you want to see material that is in storage
A selection of our books and periodicals are on view in the reading room, but most are in storage.
Requesting an item from storage: You order the book using an ordering slip. Our personnel will retrieve it from the storage area. Orders will be filled in the order they are received, and items will not be retrieved in the last 30 minutes before closing.
How to use the reading room
Everyone is welcome in the reading room. There are a few rules to create a positive study atmosphere:
