FINN JUHL INSTITUTE IS A REALITY

FINN JUHL INSTITUTE IS A REALITY
In January 2012 the world-renowned Danish furniture designer Finn Juhl (d.1989) will be aged 100 years. To celebrate this event a group of design professionals and enthusiasts have founded the association “Finn Juhl Institute” (FJI), which will disseminate information on Finn Juhl and his work regarding architecture, interior design and furniture design.
In Denmark Finn Juhl is well known for his pioneering furniture, some of which include the Poet-couch from 1941 and the Chieftains chair from 1949. Finn Juhl is also famous internationally for interior design projects such as The Trustee-ship Council Chamber at the UN building in New York, 1951.
“Finn Juhl Institute will partly support the research of Finn Juhl’s work and influence on posterity. This will gather and disseminate knowledge about his thoughts and work in general.” “We will share our knowledge and results in many ways; through seminars, award ceremonies, publications, exhibitions, website and a newsletter,” says the director of Denmark’s Design Museum, Anne-Louise Sommer; Chairman of the Board of FJI.
Finn Juhl Institute is currently working to prepare a series of activities to mark the 100th anniversary, and interested parties can follow the events calendar on the Web www.finnjuhl.org – the website will be on-line at the end of the year.
Anyone interested in Finn Juhl and his work can apply for membership of FJI, as the Board reserves the right to approve new members. In addition to participating in the activities you get as a member opportunity to buy selected products designed by Finn Juhl and Finn Juhl literature at desirable prices. Membership can be obtained on-line at www.finnjuhl.org and costs DKK 250, – per year.
The Board consists of representatives from the Design Museum in Denmark, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation, Wilhelm Hansen Foundation and Copenhagen Business School:
• Anne-Louise Sommer
