The Danish Museum of Art and Design possesses a splendid collection of French tapestries from the second part of the 20th century by some of the greatest French artists, e.g. Matisse, Gromaire and Léger. For the first time ever, this collection is now presented to the public in its entirety. The exhibition celebrates the publication of the catalogue ‘The Art of the Tapestry in Europe’ that comprises the entire collection of tapestries at The Danish Museum of Art and Design from about 1460 to 1962, authored by former curator, M.A. Vibeke Woldbye.

The Museum of Art & Design’s collection of tapestries gives a representative and interesting section of the history of European tapestry, ranging from the great unique medieval tapestry from the Southern Netherlands (“Peasants before a Judge”) to the outstanding collection of French tapestries from the last half of the twentieth century woven after cartoons by among others Henri Matisse and Fernand Léger.
