A long-overlooked chapter in Danish design history comes into focus.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Designmuseum Danmark\u2019s exhibition The Power of Print<\/em><\/a> has been awarded by Statens Kunstfonds Legatudvalg for Kunsth\u00e5ndv\u00e6rk og Design (the Danish Arts Foundation\u2019s Committee for Crafts and Design), which each year selects works of particular artistic relevance to contemporary society. The award draws attention to a craft that has long stood in the shadow of more canonised design traditions, yet has left a lasting imprint on Danish design history.<\/p>\n

The exhibition brings together historical textiles from the museum\u2019s collection as well as new works created by eight practising textile printers: Josefina Enevold, Lisbet Friis, Bitten Hegelund, Else Borup Kalles\u00f8e, Anne Fabricius M\u00f8ller, Liv Marie R\u00f8mer, Trine Tronhjem and Janne Wendt. The eight artists each receive an award from the foundation, a recognition that underscores how even the less visible disciplines within Danish design hold significant artistic power.<\/p>\n

That the Danish Arts Foundation is honouring the exhibition is of particular significance. As Denmark\u2019s largest arts foundation, it works to ensure that high-quality artistic experiences become part of everyday life for all citizens. Each year, more than DKK 500 million is distributed through around 60 funding programmes, in which 16 specialist committees support projects across architecture, visual arts, design, film, crafts, literature, music and performing arts. The results can be seen daily on stages and at festivals, in institutions, in public spaces and, not least, in cultural institutions across the country, where art and design are allowed to unfold at full scale.<\/p>\n
