Nanna Ditzel, Butterfly Chair, 1990

Nanna Ditzel, Butterfly chair, 1990

Ditzel was fascinated by nature and its contrasts, for example the butterfly’s large, flapping wings, slender body and extremely thin legs. The chair is a prototype made of aeroplane veneer with silk-screen printed ‘butterfly eyes’ and intended to have delicate metal legs. Like the butterfly, the chair visually appears to violate the laws of physics.
