Poul Henningsen, Slangestolen, 1932
Poul Henningsen, The Snake Chair, 1932
Poul Henningsen was one of the few Danish architects to cultivate international modernism and to sympathise with the likes of the German Bauhaus school. With his Snake Chair, Poul Henningsen attempted to surpass the familiar two-legged cantilever chairs by Marcel Breuer among others. A single steel tube, which is twisted round, constitutes the entire structure of the chair, which in principle has only one leg.
