Guide to Verner Panton at Designmuseum Danmark

Amoebe

The Amoebe chair was created by Verner Panton in several versions for the the Visiona II exhibition in Cologne in early 1970. Conceived as a low-slung lounge sculpture, Amoebe embodies the free-spirited ethos of 1960s design. The seat and backrest form a sculptural unity, and the organic shape – as the name suggests – is inspired by single-celled organisms.
