Green Attraction

Sustainability

In 2024, Designmuseum Danmark was certified as a Green Attraction and joined the Green Museum Academy.

Sustainability is a central agenda in the design field. As a responsible museum, we strive to protect the environment and nature, to communicate the potential of green transition, and to inspire discussion and new behaviors among users, practitioners, and producers within design.

We:

  • Conserve natural resources and aim to minimize our environmental impact.
  • Continuously explore new knowledge and technology to enhance environmental protection.
  • Implement initiatives and use products that save energy and water.
  • Inform our guests and staff on ways to care for the environment.
  • Ensure a high level of recycling and waste reduction.
  • Encourage our suppliers to meet our environmental standards.
  • Adhere to Green Key criteria and actively work with its recommendations.

As part of our 2030 strategy, we also aim to promote design’s sustainable potential through various communication formats.

What can you do as a guest?

Special Initiatives at Café FORMAT

At Café FORMAT, the menu is always based on the best seasonal ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible. Animal welfare, health, organics, and support for local produce are key values for us and our kitchen. The café shows consideration for nature by collaborating with local producers, aligning with the natural growing seasons. All dairy products and most dry goods are organic. The café collaborates with local, small farms that practice organic and biodynamic farming.

All food is freshly prepared at the museum daily. The café adheres to the museum’s recommendation to conserve resources in production and makes an effort to avoid food waste, so our guests can enjoy a delicious meal with a clear conscience.

Special Initiatives at Designmuseum Danmark's Store

In our museum shop, we aim to support the museum’s sustainable efforts by focusing on quality and material choice. We prioritize merchandise and products emphasizing local production, environmental considerations, and sustainability, selecting items that are used for or inspire sustainable behavior.

We handpick arts and crafts connected to the museum—this is not just a shop filled with products. We help to convey our collection, exhibitions, and the conscious role of design. We emphasize products by local Danish artisans and make mindful choices, such as using certified printers.

What can you do as a supplier?

As a certified Green Attraction, we meet numerous criteria for eco-friendly operations and continuously set higher standards for our suppliers, giving them a chance to contribute to these efforts. We welcome partners who are proactive about environmental efforts and constantly work to reduce the environmental impact of their products or services. This can include minimizing water, energy, and chemical usage, using less and eco-friendlier packaging, selecting sustainable transport, and more.
