My everyday design
Fatima’s favorite coffee maker
DESIGN IS A PART OF OUR EVERYDAY LIFE. COFFEE CUPS, RAIN COATS, BAGS, LAMPS, HEIRLOOMS. DESIGN IS THE THINGS WE LIVE WITH AND LIVE IN.
For 29-year-old Fatima, it’s important to start the day off with a good cup of coffee. Fatima works as a furniture and set designer. She brews her coffee in her Pulcina espresso maker from the Italian brand, Alessi.
Fatima is very fond of Alessi’s designs. Her collection started when her mom gave her an electric kettle and a sugar bowl. Later came a kitchen timer, salt and pepper shakers and the rocket-like citrus squeezer designed by Philip Starck. Fatima likes that Alessi’s kitchenware looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Alessi was founded in 1921 and is known for their stainless steel products. Their space age style is something Fatima has been inspired by and used in her own designs.
Most of her Alessi products are bought secondhand. She cares about sustainability, and although she likes the playful designs, she believes that quality and durability are equally important. She also likes that Alessi is good design that most people can afford – especially bought secondhand.
