Join us for a free concert in the Museum Garden at Designmuseum Danmark featuring Ngánga. An ensemble led by renowned session musician Rune Harder Olesen.

Rune Harder Olesen is one of Denmark’s most in-demand session musicians. Alongside his professional career, he has dedicated himself to the study of Afro-Cuban music. Together with his Cuban wife, singer and dancer Raisa Castro, he formed the group Ngánga, which also includes their two daughters, Sophia and Cecilia Castro. The band is further enriched by two internationally acclaimed musicians: Cuban bassist and guitarist Yasser Pino, and Gambian kora virtuoso Dawda Jobarteh.

The name Ngánga originates from the Bantu people of West Africa. The group’s music is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Afro-Cuban folk music—a legacy carried to Cuba by West African slaves between the early 1500s and the mid-1800s.
