Guide to Verner Panton at Designmuseum Danmark

Pantonova, 1971

In 1971, Verner Panton designed the modular sofa system Pantonova for the Danish restaurant Varna. With its psychedelic shapes and vibrant colours, it perfectly captured the spirit of the 1970s. The Pantonova sofa later became world-famous after appearing in the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. The series consists of sculptural steel-wire chairs (Linear, Concave, Convex) that can be combined into organic configurations. Pantonova is characterised by its transparent, airy expression and futuristic design aesthetic.
