Upcoming
Christmas at
Designmuseum Danmark
As Christmas approaches, Designmuseum Danmark once again invites you to experience heartwarming design throughout December. Among the highlights is this year’s Christmas table set with sparkling, colorful glass pieces by designer Helle Mardahl, the newly opened exhibition THE CUP AND THE CERAMIST, and in the museum café you can enjoy homemade mulled wine and Christmas cookies.
We look forward to welcoming you to the museum this holiday season.

Free admission three evenings in December
We would like to sweeten the busy and dark Christmas month with free design experiences for you, and therefore you can visit the museum free and clear on three selected evenings in December. Come and see the newly opened exhibition THE CUP AND THE CERAMIST, explore iconic Danish design in DANISH MODERN, enjoy a good dinner in the museum café after Christmas gift shopping and experience this year’s beautifully decorated Christmas table set by glass artist and designer Helle Mardahl.
There is free admission to the entire museum:
Thursday 5 December at 16-20
Thursday 12 December at 16-20
Thursday 19 December at 16-20
Note: The museum is open these days from 10 as always, but there is only free entry from 16.
Our recommendation: Start your visit by seeing the exhibitions and afterwards enjoy the museum’s café and shop. A good exhibition visit takes approx. 1 hour, and we close access to the exhibitions 30 minutes before the museum closes. So everyone gets a good experience.

Danish design on the Christmas table
As tradition dictates, this year you can experience the museum’s Christmas table, set by various prominent designers. This year, the table is created by glass artist and designer Helle Mardahl.
Helle Mardahl is known for her hand-blown glass objects in organic shapes and her unique design universe, which evokes the feeling of a candy shop. The Christmas table is free to visit and can be found next to the museum café, FORMAT.

A tree like no other
Experience the museum’s Christmas tree, which is decorated each year by a different Danish designer. This year, designer Charlotte Søeborg Ohlsen has put her unique touch on the tradition. The Christmas angels are meticulously folded from a single sheet of paper, with hands coming together in a gesture of peace and wings pointing backward. You’ll also find silver-colored butterflies and bees among the decorations.
The Christmas tree is located next to the museum café, and you can enjoy it free of charge until December 23rd. If you’d like to bring home a piece of the magic, the handcrafted ornaments are available for purchase in the museum shop, while supplies last.

Explore the Newly Opened Ceramic Exhibition
This holiday season, the museum presents a new exhibition titled The Cup and the Ceramicist, where you can explore ceramic cups created by 30 Danish ceramicists, each offering their interpretation of “the perfect cup.” In recent years, interest in unique, handmade ceramic cups has grown, and the cup itself has become more diverse, with special editions for different beverages. Whether your cup is filled with cappuccino, tea, or hot cocoa, there’s a rich tradition behind it, which this exhibition takes a closer look at.
You can also enjoy other current exhibitions, ranging from past icons to future design solutions.

Christmas at the Museum Café
If you’re looking for the museum café FORMAT, just follow the scent of homemade mulled wine, vanilla wreaths, and gingerbread cookies. Christmas magic fills every corner of the café, with paper decorations creating a festive atmosphere. Both the lunch and dinner menus have received an extra dose of holiday warmth this season.
