Children's workshop: Wooden Christmas Decorations
Saturdays, December 5 and December 12 from 10-15
Which Christmas decorations belongs on your tree? The one that has followed the family for years or something more modern? At this workshop, children and adults can make their own wooden Christmas decorations and add a new piece to the collection at home.
This year, we’ve set the paper aside and brought out the veneer. These thin sheets of wood can be bent, folded and cut until they take shape as small, organic figures. A clip holds each form in place, while the grain and shades of the wood give every piece its own character. Simple, natural and with room to experiment.
The idea springs from the museum’s annual Christmas table, which can be experienced between the museum’s foyer and café. Here, twin sisters Julie and Simone Lundgaard of Skov Studio have put the forms and textures of wood at the center. In the workshop, you can explore the material for yourselves and see what happens when a flat piece of wood takes shape through imagination.
Take your decorations home, hang them on the tree or in the window, or wrap them up for someone you love. Perhaps they will become part of your family’s Christmas traditions for many years to come.
