Guide to Verner Panton at Designmuseum Danmark
Living Tower
Verner Panton’s iconic Living Tower is an organic furniture sculpture rising more than two metres high across multiple levels. The piece was created as part of the “living landscape” movement of the 1960s, which sought to break away from conventional furniture and create playful, functional design. The organic form and small niches of the Living Tower encourage relaxation and social interaction, inviting people to sit, lie down, and climb within the furniture. The piece is a clear example of Panton’s vision of creating a “total environment” (Gesamtkunstwerk), where furniture functions as flexible, space-defining elements.
