NEW WORK BY LISE VESTER LIGHTS UP THE MUSEUM

The Danish designer Lise Vester has created a sculptural chandelier inspired by the lighthouse, which, with its distinctive light, sparks curiosity and invites reflection. In the coming period, museum visitors can experience the artwork Lighthouse and its magical, playful light in the museum’s library lounge, which is free to visit.

A large chandelier, resembling the glowing top of a lighthouse, has been installed in the museum’s library lounge, adjacent to the design library. Here, visitors can enjoy the distinctive light emanating from the chandelier—appearing cool and blue in daylight and taking on warmer tones in the evening.

A lighthouse as inspiration
Lise Vester’s chandelier reimagines the lighthouse’s guiding light by merging the groundbreaking Fresnel lens, named after the French physicist Augustin-Jean Fresnel, with modern optical technology. The lighthouse stands as a symbol of hope, inspiration, and courage—a landmark that has historically guided sailors safely across the seas. The Lighthouse chandelier, with its contemporary Fresnel lenses, creates a mesmerising, playful light that sparks curiosity and invites contemplation. The piece was first unveiled at Snedkernes Efterårsudstilling (The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition) in 2024.

Design that speaks to the senses and the soul
Lise Vester’s design approach is rooted in playful, sculptural elements that engage both the senses and the mind. She focuses on creating empathetic design solutions, crafting aesthetic furniture, objects, and lighting that support emotional well-being. Her work Dream View Sphere was part of the exhibition THE FUTURE IS PRESENT, showcased at the museum from 2022 to 2024. The piece is now part of the museum’s collection.

Lighthouse is on loan from the designer to Designmuseum Denmark, created in collaboration with Louis Poulsen with support from The Danish Arts Foundation, Danmarks Nationalbank’s Jubilee and Grosserer L.F. Foght’s Foundation.
