COPENPAY: Shibori workshop in the museum garden
Tuesday 28 July from 12-16
Come join us as we experiment with elastics, clips, and clothespins, and give socks a whole new expression in the green garden of Designmuseum Danmark.
As a part of CopenPay, we invite you to an alternative exchange rate, where your sustainable actions become entrance tickets to a free cultural experience. In this summer workshop, we dive into the Japanese shibori technique: a sensuous and almost meditative way to give new life to an old t-shirt or a few dull, white socks. Through binding, folding, and coloring, the fabric’s surface turns into living, organic patterns in a deep indigo blue.
The technique is not about hiding your mistakes, but about embracing them when stains, wear, and usage become a part of the expression. The participants can work with materials from the museum or bring their own textiles to give them new life.
The practice materials are donated by Textilia.
How does it work?
CopenPay is an initiative from Wonderful Copenhagen, Copenhagen’s official tourism organization, which allows visitors and citizens to experience the city through sustainable actions. Instead of paying with money, you gain access to experiences such as this workshop by doing active, good deeds – for example, by biking, recycling, or participating in an activitity that expands your knowledge of sustainability.
At Designmuseum Danmark, we work with the things you already have. In the workshops, you learn to repair, renew, and rethink textiles, so that the things you would have thrown away receive new life. When you participate, your action is registered in the CopenPay system through an app or another digital solution.
