EVENT

Winter
at the museum

Week 7 marks school holidays across Denmark, and Designmuseum Danmark is celebrating with a festival of hands-on activities.

From children’s workshops to exhibitions exploring sustainable design and healthcare architecture, there’s something for everyone. And what would a school holiday be without delectable treats? The museum café offers children’s pasta dishes, whilst our petite bakery, Little Format, serves the popular Fastelavnsboller throughout the weekend.

WORKSHOP: SEW A CASE FROM RECYCLED TEXTILES
This winter holiday, we invite children and families to our Design Workshop for a unique and hands-on upcycling experience. Here, we’ll transform recycled textiles into beautiful, functional creations – a quilted purse, a pencil case, or another imaginative design.

THE SEASON FOR FASTELAVNSBOLLER
The season for Fastelavnsboller is here, and this year, the museum café presents a special take on the classic Fastelavnsbolle made with crisp croissant dough, tangy blackcurrant jam, creamy vanilla, and whipped cream. It’s a delightful twist on the traditional.

Our fastelavnsboller are available on Saturdays and Sundays at Lille Format (in front of the museum). We bake 100 each day, with the first 50 ready at 10, and another 50 available at 13.

NEW EXHIBITION: HEARTSPACE
What does design and layout of hospitals mean for patients? In the exhibition Heartspace: Designing a healing hospital, you’ll get a unique insight into the future children’s hospital, Mary Elizabeth’s Hospital, set to open as part of Rigshospitalet in 2027. The exhibition also explores the visionary hospitals of the past.

NEW EXHIBITION: AKUT #6
Today, designers and companies are increasingly addressing questions about how design objects, furniture, and textiles can be recycled. AKUT #6: Fabric of Change focuses on how used textiles can be upcycled into new products, exploring how the green transition can be realised on a large scale.

WINTER TREATS AT THE CAFÉ
At the café, there’s something for everyone. We offer breakfast and lunch, a wide range of freshly baked goods, and a children’s menu featuring pasta with tomato sauce. Don’t forget, every Thursday you can enjoy a three-course evening menu based on fresh, local ingredients.

WINTER SHOPPING AT THE MUSEUM SHOP
With the winter holidays approaching and the museum filled with special activities, the shop is the perfect extension of your visit. The shop’s selection has been carefully curated so you can take home something that either relates to the current exhibitions, comes from the museum’s own archives, or presents design classics in a new form. It’s an ideal opportunity to find unique gifts, souvenirs, or something special for yourself.
